The tradition of yoga can be followed back to over 4000 years ago. Eastern philosophies such as the Chakra System (energy centers in our bodies), Nadis (energy channels in our bodies) and Vayus (energy currents in our bodies) can be utilized to explore the body from an energetic perspective as well as a physical one and to identify disturbances in the mind/body system.

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical system, can be traced back over 6000 years. The word Ayurveda itself translates into “life and longevity.” It employs concepts such as the Five Elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether/space), Doshas (compositions that we all have that create balance and imbalance within us) and Gunas (inherent qualities or tendencies) to explore our psychological, emotional and spiritual self in our day to day experience.

“As the field of neuroscience advances, we find more and more about the strong interconnection between mind, brain, and body, how thoughts and chemistry weave their way into emotion and spirituality.” –quote from book review of Healing Trauma from the Inside Out by P. Tinkham
